George W. Bush defeated Democratic incumbent Ann Richards and was elected Governor of the State of Texas on Nov. 8, 1994, then re-elected on Nov. 3, 1998. Bush served as Governor of Texas, from Jan. 17, 1995, to Dec. 21, 2000, when he resigned after being elected president of the United States.
